Used to go skating all the time between 1957 and 1960’s. Good memories.

I too used to go skating there and I believe they occasionally had “sock hops” there. Anyone remember Ed Rambeau and Diane Renay coming there to perform. Her hit was I believe, “Kiss me Sailor Boy” or something like that.

I went there until 1954 when I married and quickly got pregnant !!! Loved the Mercury. George Gaskins sold tickets and his nephew , last name Whitehurst went pro from there. I was introduced to the man that I would later marry at the Mercury and have very fond memories of that place.

Remember it well, especially the dances 1962.

I remember going there for lessons to earn my skater’s badge in Girl Scouts back in the late 60s or early 70s. The instructor at the time was Diane McIntyre. Later, after earning my badge, I continued receiving lessons there along with my younger sister. We had so much fun skating the matinees every Saturday after our lessons.

My Father was a back to back national champion.1949 and 1950. He skated here. His name was Claud Whitehurst Jr. and pasted away January 17, 2021. He was a great man.
