I think Downtown is scared Wards Corner could hurt some of the othe retail areas in Norfolk if it was allowed to develop into it’s full potential.

For me, I would rather shop in our area and with the price of gas I will be shopping around Military Circle/Janef a lot less this year. If the retailers want my money they are going to have to invest/locate in Wards Corner. I already have stopped shopping South of the Granby Street bridge cause Downtown refuses to move on our redevelopment.

Downtown will need tax base to feed it’s redevelopment and Wards Corner, at it’s full potential, will be a large addition to the tax rolls. So by not redeveloping Wards Corner, Downtown is only hurting it self.
